Burlington, Vermont’s Lost Mural Project has received a Vermont Certified Local Grant (CLG) Award Letter for its Intersections Mapping Program, a digital database and map of Burlington’s Old North End immigrant neighborhoods between 1850 and 1950.
The current phase of the CLG Grant supports research and digitization of Burlington's immigrant communities, beginning with the Jewish, French-Canadian, Irish, and Italian communities for the ten year intervals between 1850 and 1950. The project is indexed by occupant name, businesses, religious institutions, and fraternal and social organizations at each address through the decades. With additional funding support, the program may subsequently include other immigrant communities that have added to the rich history of Burlington’s Old North End.
The grant application was approved by the Burlington Historic Preservation Review Committee and by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation. The grant is funded by the National Parks Service Historic Preservation Fund. The Lost Mural Project hopes to complete current mapping efforts by December 31, 2026. The final product will be delivered to the City of Burlington and the State of Vermont, and maintained on the Lost Mural Project's website at www.lostmural.org.
