The “Synagogue Painters of Eastern Europe” and the “Antecedents and Comparison” text logically fits under this heading. . We also have many pictures of wooden synagogues (which the National Holocaust Museum” gave us from their collection. We could also incorporate some discussion and/or information on shtetl life in Eastern Europe, to highlight how communities were physically constructed to centralize the synagogue within people’s lives.

 

The Origins of Burlington’s “Little Jerusalem”

The “Cekiske” piece highlights where the Burlington community originated (that should be make explicit).

We could also incorporate pictures of the Burlington synagogues to illustrate how they are built in the Eastern European tradition.

We can also highlight the award-winning Vermont Public Television film on “Little Jerusalem” and even guide folks to it for online viewing.
